FAQ
Whalecard is the SaaS designed for companies looking for talented software engineers locally or globally. With Whalecard you could easily search engineers, filter results, compare and make a job offer to the talented engineers by referencing their past experience we provide. You could search either by profile information of talents, or by project details they have participated in.

We analyse user profiles and projects on the top of the open source platforms like Github, Gitlab, Stackoverflow etc. everyday and create analytics from there. With the distilled and aggregated data about talents and projects they participated in, we provide you with a smart search engine to easily discover great talents fitting to your business necessity.

We analyse all projects talents contributed to. From historical contributions of talents our whale engine discovers their skills and competences.

On the so called card of talents customers could see insights about talents achievement as well as project cards with a lot of metrics. For example: how much percentage of contributions belong to the given talent on the given project. What tech stacks were used for the given project, and what tech stack talent worked with mostly – with percentage. How long did the given talent work on the given project, and how does it look like his or her contribution, what are the impressive works the given talent has accomplished etc. Along with the performance data about talents, we also provide profile information about talents such as availability for a new job, short biography, blog pages of talents, their location, private and work email etc.

We strongly recommend approaching talents individually by referencing their experience you get through the provided talent cards. Because most of the talents you reveal profiles from Whalecard are busy talents. But with honestly personalized messages through email or so you will definitely have a higher chance to encourage great talents to make a change.

Talents’ job status are grabbed from their profile on opensource platforms. If talent did not explicitly provide information about his or her availability for a new job, we assume that such talents are probably passively interested in for new opportunities.

Validated metrics we present on the talents’ cards are essentially designed to use flexibly by combining and making your own decision pipeline. One of the approaches might be as following to differentiate technically “good” talents: you could start reviewing project details talents contributed for – specially these fields: how popular is the project (indicator: “team size” metric), how big is the project (indicator: “project size” metrics – specially “main branch commits”), how much does the given project fit to your industry or problem area (indicator: “topics” and indicator: “tech stack”). Then you could check “contribution summary” (main branch) and “contribution volume” (main branch) metrics of talents in “My verified achievement” section. The rule of thumb is, if a talent has achieved more than 0.1% contribution volume on a large (L) or xlarge (XL) project – this could be considered as a strong indication for technically very good talents. In medium (M) size projects we see that strong talents have higher contribution volume about 1%+. Depending on your business requirements and expectation from talents you could also use metrics under the “My impressive works” section. If the terms we used here are strange, no worries we have provided a glossary for them.

Emails and also other existing contact details are distilled from 100% publicly available information. And these information are directly publicized by talents themselves. We ensure you that there is neither no hacking algorithms, nor illegal actions behind of scene. We strongly respect the protection of personal information, but we don’t store any private information yet on our end. In case we do so, we will apply all points of the GDPR and similar regulations known worldwide respectively. Nevertheless if you would experience any issue regarding this, please let us know through privacy@whalecard.co so that we could exclude profiles who do not desired to be on our search platform.

We provide you so called feature “My impressive works” this is the shortest answer to the question. Whalecard analyze all contributions talents do on opensource platforms. From big data analysis we discover the most boldest works – really impressive works of talents and show you top 3 impressive works. But if you would love to see more, we provide you with a sorted list – from most to less impressive works to deep dive into details about the given talent, on a given project.
